Spring locators or cups

I need to know which i need, or if there is a difference. Im putting comp 986 springs on my aluminum heads, which are cut for a bigger spring, the specs on the 986's are ID.697 1.430 outer diameter. Which ones do i need to keep my spring from digging into my head and from walking around.

Looks like the only ones that would work with springs that small are the 4712. And those will only work if your guides are .500" OD, they will not fit if they're .530" OD.

986 is a double. That 4712 spring seat is something like 1.44" outer, .690" inner; the problem is the inner dia of the spring. There's no cups with OD of 1.45" or similar useful size; and that's the only one that locates by the inner dia of the spring that I know of, that's also small enough to fit inside that spring. But, its hole dia is only .520"; which means it won't go down over a .530" guide. Gotta be .500" guides.

That would work; only thing, is that the inner dia of the hole in the locator, is .055" bigger than the larger size your guide might be. Still leaves it ALOT of room to wander around.

What's your guide OD?

Hmm.... that bites, you can't even put a good seal on them. The good seals are all .530" or .500".

But if they're that big, then at least the bigger spring cup should sit still on them.
