Help!!! Questions about computer in car!!!
It's a bit of a long story, but it started with my fan not cutting in, and has resulted in the following.
When the mechanic hooked up his diagnostic machine to the connector, the machine said that there was no computer there. Afterwards I used the paper clip test and connected pins 5 and 6 together and turned the ignition to on(without starting it), but no "Service Engine Soon" light(only the choke light). Ever since I have owned the car the "Fasten Seat Belts" light has never come on. I can't figure what's going on, whether there's something wrong with the computer or if the wiring in the dash is all messed.
Also, no one can seem to find the computer, but according to the diagrams I've seen it's under the dash in the exact spot where I found a black box with wires going into it and a couple of numbers (37BG and 25074709). But everyone says it's supposed to be in a silver box, not black.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

I answered this on the other board too, your car doesn't have a computer, never did. One of the perks of living in Canada.

Then why doesn't my fan cut in when it's supposed to and why does the car even have a diagnostic connector if there is no fan and what is the black box under the dash(according to a diagram i found, it's supposed to be the ECM)??

Whether you have a computer or not, it doesn't control the fan. There's a switch in the pass side head between the #6 and #8 plugs, and a relay between the master cylinder and the fender, that do that.
You probably have the connector because it's cheaper for the factory to build all the cars with it than it is to figure out which ones get it and which don't.

One simple test to see if the fan is still good. Turn the ac on and see if the fan runs it should! if it doesnt the fan might be shot!

Whenever I turn on the air conditioning the fan comes on. I shorted the fan switch connector to ground and the fan came on. The connector is in the proper place on the fan temp sensor in between the 6 and 8 cylinders.
Any other ideas??

Then I'd guess the fan switch is defective. When you shorted the wire to ground, you bypassed the switch only...this would indicate that the fanswitch is not operating correctly, assuming your dash gauge is accurate and that's what you're basing your problem on?
