Do stock LG4's not have any top end?

That's my biggest beef with the LG4. It has decent low-end but once it gets above 3000 the car has no pickup. The car will actually go faster if I back off and let it shift into 2nd gear and accelerate enough to only keep the secondaries open. I just want to make sure it's the motor and that there isn't a problem with the motor.

Mine keeps pulling at least till 5500 when I shift. Then again, I've got some higher rate valve springs, edelbrock performer intake, tes headers, 3 inch exhaust, comp cam XE256 and a holley 670 cfm. Stock it would fall flat on it's face around 3800, but that also might have been because of 4 rounded over lobes on the cam and weak springs.

The cam they put in that motor is the lamest excuse for a cam ever invented. Between that and the tiny exhaust system, the engine simply doen't flow.

The other post pointed out how to fix it. He has done exactly what it needs. Exhaust all the way from the heads to the street, and a good cam (which the one he picked is one of the best matches to that engine) with new valve springs, will make an astounding amount of improvement.

It also sounds like you have the bad carb w/ the limited air valve opening. Check my tech article on how to make it open fully, you'll also need to get some new secondary metering rods. That and an open element air cleaner will make a huge difference.
