New to board need Cooling question answered
Hi Guys! I have been browsing this board for almost two years now and just now finally registered. I have fixed many problems with my car based on the info I get here. But here is the issue right now. The electric fan on my 92 305 was not working at all. I checked the fan to make sure it was ok and it was. I replaced the relay on the drivers side on the firewall, and now the fan works with the AC on. That is great at least I can cool her down. The temp guage in the car works fine. I want the fan to come on when it is supposed to. I know you guys said that there is a sensor in the block on the pass side between the 6 and 8 plug. But is that the one I should replace next. What about the sensor in the intake manifold just in front of where the Thermostat is. What do you think is the most likely culprit at this time. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

check fo a ground on the green wire going to threlay,if you get no ground after225 degrees, then replace your senor on the block.

The sensor at the front of the manifold is the Coolant Temperature Sensor and that info is fed to the computer. This is a very important sensor, many of the calculations in the computer are based on this sensor. If it malfunctions it will throw off the calculations for the computers internal tables. I'd replace it if you think it is bad, though a handheld scanner will tell you if it's working.

how do you know the fan isnt coming on now since you replaced the sensor? The fan is designed to come on a 225 degrees. Yea, that sounds hot, and it is damn hot, but it was for polution purposes. That is why tempature control is so popular with our cars, because the factory sets up the fan to turn on at 225 which is pretty uncomfortable for most of us, there is nothing worse than constantly looking at your temp gauge all the time.......even if its working correctly
