WHAT DOES PINGING AND KNOCKING SOUND LIKE?

Hi yes a stupid question I bet and I am a novice. I just want to know what I should be hearing. What do they sound like and do the affect the performance. Please enlighten me. Thanks

if your knock sensor detects pinging it will retard timing , affecting performance.

it sounds like a woodpecker in your motor, just not as hollow....you'll hear it best w/ the radio off, the windows up, and no air/heat on....it's a nasty sounds and you'll know it if you hear it.

I had an RS with a 406 and TBI trying to get that thing to feed the motor was fun. It dentonated so hard one time it sounded like someone was beating the piston top with a hammer. Its not a pretty sound...

Make sure your exhuast is leak free around the motor. Some times a leak can sound like pinging.

Put a screw driver in a tin coffe can and shake it around, thats what detonation sounds like.
