You probably don't have posi-traction which means you have an open rearend. I believe most cars besides the Z28's came with open rearends. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Sounds like you have whats known as an open diff. If you want both to spin, get a posi.

PowerTrax is like $300 from summit I think. It is one way to go, but I'm not sure what rears it works with.

My old 86 Sports Coupe Camaro with the 4brl was even POSI. (it was like the most low end V-8 Camaro) I thought all the Camaros where posi, I heard just most people clutches were worn thats the reason for the one tire burn outs.

You need to be more careful who you listen too then.

Posi was far from standard Equipment. It is Just an option Like any other and came on some cars, and not On others.

I'd like to smack the clown that ordered my IROC. Every option available in 85, but no posi.

Zexel is far from 'the only way to go' The 100 dollar unit was taken out of new firebirds/camaros because it was too weak. It doesn't end up being 100 bucks after you add axles(if you don't have 28 spline),ring and pinion(if you don't have 3 series gears), bearings, professional install to set up the gears. Powertrax works just fine around town, it's not a 'normal' locker and is easy to install. The gears, bearings, axles, etc... remain intact. Auburn and Eaton also have some 'limited slip' units as well.

------------------
350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, current red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

It's been my experience that good ol' american v-8's tend to have this problem(?) with spinning tires during acceleration! To answer your question, 82Camaro has given solid advice. Another option would be to aquire a used rearend with posi from another 3rd or 4th gen car and swap it with yours.

Mine has limited slip(89rs 305tbi). When the burnout starts only the passenger side wheel is burning the the driver side wheel will kick a few seconds later. If you are racing spinning is great for kicks but who keeps it solid to the pavement will be the one that wins. Posi track will do this!!
