Help, Weird Noise!
Hey Ide appreciate some input. I have a 91 Camaro 305 TBI with 112,000 miles on the engine. It seemed to be running smoothly until just recently. A Service Engine Soon light will come on briefly then dissapear during random points when I drive. The problem is a humming/buzzing noise coming the front left of the car (assuming Im in the drivers seat). I can hear this noise only from inside the cabin. When I pop the hood, it seems to get drowned out by the overall belt noise. I assumed it was power steering and filled it. It is not. I am only hearing this noise when the temperature reaches roughly 220. This sound is not my electric fan for starters.
I concluded that it may be these things:
-Power steering, even though I filled it. Could it be more involved?
-My alternator. It seems to be making a noise when I pop the hood (but not similar to what I hear from inside
)
-Some sort of pump or spinning object from this region
Please help me, something bad is going to happen soon and Ill be stranded.

uh you don't need a machine to run codes....you just need a paper clip, you jump 2 pins on the diognostic port (I don't have my manual, and it's been years since I did mine) I'm not quite sure which ones...someone on hear will know, and you turn the ignition on, NOT TO START, and the check engine will flash...1 time than a pause and than 2 times than a pause....code 12-no distributor pulse...it says the diognostic sys. works and the car is not running... than you will get the accual codes telling you what's wrong, than it will repeat, that's all there is to it

does the noise change pitch when you move the steering wheel back and forth?, you may hyave got air in the power steering sys, and you'll have to blead it out, I don't have my manual with me(I'm in korea) but I belive it has you jack the front of the car up and go from lock to lock with the front wheels with the engine running, not really that hard, just make sure you have some extra fluid with you it sucks that stuff down real fast

DISPLAYING THE TROUBLE CODES
Run a wire/hairpin from Pin 6 to Pin 12 with the ignition off (although on later cars it should be from Pin 5 to Pin 6), then turning the ignition to the on position without starting the engine will flash the "Service Engine Soon" light in the following sequence: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause Following this "12" code repeating three times will come any trouble codes stored, flashing each of them three times. If you do not see the "12" flash three times, your diagnostic circuit is defective.
Some vehicles will display stored trouble codes, then "12" again, followed by energizing "most system controlled relays." The fuel pump relay will not energize. The idle air control valve will fully extend to enable checking minimum idle speed.
CLEARING THE TROUBLE CODES
Turn the keyswitch to the off position. To clear any trouble codes, disconnect the power feed for 30 seconds. If this is done at the battery, and your car stereo is equipped and programmed with a four digit pin code, you may have to re-enter that as well to use your stereo again. A better place to remove power is at the fuse.

I know Token. Im not good with cars okay, thats why Im here. Good luck with the shop. But its the alternator, its making the humming noise. Im not if I should get a new one, or wait until this one dies completely. I might have to replace it. The cars running though ha.
