What Rear and What Gears?

I have an 89 TBI RS camaro with a stock rear. I want to get rid of the peg leg. Any one know what rear I should get and what Gears would be a good set. I have a drive from NJ to Rochester NY. So I want a good enbetween rear. So if any one has any idea of what I should get, please let me know.

You need to keep the engine in it's powerband to get good performance. I wouldn't go much higher than a 3:55 in your car. A 3.43 would probably be a good choice. A 3.73 or higher would keep you in the upper rpm range and a basically stock 305 TBI falls on it's face after 4500rpm.

You've most likely have the 3.42 ratio. I wouldn't bother changing it. Good compromise between performance and fuel mileage. If you want posi consider a Powertrax unit. $300 from Summit nad it goes in with basic handtools. You do have to know the number of splines on your axles though and since you have an 89 you will have to pull the axle and count the number of splines. BTW, 89 was the phase-in year for 26 to 28 spline axles, that is why you have to count.
