Carbon deposits

I changed my egr valve today and i noticed it was totally gunked up with carbon and this black sludge looking stuff. I cleaned out the little ports of all the carbon and the sludge, but what else can i do to reduce my carbon? i heard using 104 octane fuel would really help in my emissions, is that true? thanks

av gas or race fuel would most likely increase your emmisions. the best thing you can do to make sure you engine runs good and puts out less emmisions is to keep it in good tune and maintained.
