Running Warmer Than Usual!!

Going down the highway my car usually stays around 170*, but I just took a long trip and it was staying around 190*, the weather has warmed up quite a bit around 100* with humidity. The other day I was sitting in traffic and the guage read 220*, so I turned my heat on and put the car in drive to raise the rpm's (I have a belt driven fan), as I pulled into a parking space it reached 230*. I have an aluminum radiator and 160*, how come all of a sudden my temp. is higher.
I saw in Summit this additive to the radiator that reduces temps up to 20*, anyone ever used it.
