i have a friend that has a mazda and it think the valve cover gasket is leaking cause oil is like pastey and bulid up right below it and it makes a weird smell also the car has 120000 miles on it. how long does it take to do valve cover gaskets it is just taking off the bolts and putting a new gasket on with sealer right?

yeah it should be. ITs pretty easy assuming the vavle covers arent stuck, but a hammer should dislodge them if they are.

Shouldnt need any sealer, I am pretty sure its a rubber gasket. Since you are asking and havent changed one, I would plan on 2 hours+beer time. If I did a protege it was so long ago I dont remember, but I have changed gaskets on other mazda 4-bangers and its pretty straightforward.

A maaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzdaaaaaaaaaaaa with that many miles. Throw the car away all together. Its ****. Buy and Camaro. You'll be better off. Otherwise about and hour or two, depending on you. Shouldn't ask us how long it will take. My uncle who worked for GM for like 22 years tells me everything takes 5mins. MAYBE 5 MINS for him cuase he knows what he is doing about avery GM car, but not 5mins for me, who is just learning. lol

YOu should still sell it
