window motor removal
Can anyone tell me how to get the motor out of the door, the tech article says theres 4 rivets that need to be drilled out but theres no way to access them, i can see 2 of em but no way a drill is getting back there, would i have to drill through the door? the article isnt very specific and has no pictures, any ideas?

1st you take the door panel off, then once you have it off look at the motor. The rivets are in plain sight and you drill them from the outside the door on the interior sde ,not from inside the door or by any means dont attack the motor from the exterior of car..A short drill bit should do it ,I forget what size though, but if you use a long one careful cuz you dont want it to go through the outside of the door

i think i see what you are talking about, are the rivets large ones? and also used to hold other parts to the door? and i take it that im not just removing the motor itself but the whole assembly

And make sure you throw a bolt in the hole for the scissor jacks.
Correct me if I am wrong if you don't bolt em, when you take the motor off won't the scissor part fly apart.
There is a good write on window motor removal if you do a search . I know I place a weld on the bolts head before I put my assy back in . Saved my hands alot of scraping.

You can get the rivet gun and harbor freight and tools to do the oversize rivets if needed, about 14.00 for the gun. comes with rivets to.

Easiest way to do it, is to locate the rivets (there's 4 of them IIRC), and drill ½" or so holes in the part of the door that's in front of them. I think 2 of them, maybe 3, need access holes drilled.
You can get pop rivet tools anywhere. Sears, parts stores, hardware stores, and so forth. They're dirt cheap, and amazingly useful. The rivets are 3/16" aluminum IIRC. Been awhile since I looked at one of these though.

Just make sure that when you drill new holes, that you also spray a little primer anywhere that you cut. Dont go crazy with it, just enough to cover the bare metal...
I've encountered atleast 2 doors now (out of the 4 GM ones that I've now) where they drilled out the rivets, and over-sized the holes a bit and just put in bolts and nuts and used loctite... the only problem is, the washer didnt work to cover the fresh bare metal, and it ended up rusting there.
Granted, this will probably happen after a 15 year interval, but still... lol
