help, starter keeps going

sorry to say but this is on my malibu,I hope you guys dont mind. and this is part of a battery relocation to the trunk

ok guys I did all the wiring updates, grounded to the frame before the rear tire(good and solid) thats 2 gauge, have a wire going to the body from batt as well. then one'+' going to starter.

I'm thinking its the starter. the car want to turn over, but I let go of the key hesistantly now, and it keeps cranking, I dotn think it will start because its not getting any spark. the only thing that i can think of that caused this is I hoooked up my monster tach? and ran wire to my distributor, were I'm pretty shure it goes. and also I noticed that when I was tigtening the bolt back onto the starter that the stud moved a little, I dont know if I needed to use two wrenches, one to hold the stud there and the other to thread on tight. and I'm pretty shure i have these put on right, there is a smaller wire thats on the stud first, then I think a washer then the '+' cable.

I had to turn to the back of the car and toss off the power cable

I hope I dont need a new starter because of just that

ps. the starter will eventually die down, and obviously stop itself but when its turning over normally it just keeps going. even when I turn the key to off, and also even if I take the key out,

i've never dealt with a starter problem before but is there a selenoid that shuts the power off that might not be DEACTIVATING?

cheers

If this were on your F-Car, I would guess that the starter solenoid is sticking. If it were, it might be related to the swap, or just coincidental. Either way, you would need to fix this on your F-car before it did some serious damage. On a ThirdGen, it would also be remotely possible (and coincidental) that the ignition switch would be sticking.

However, this is all theoretical, and since this is on a Malibu, and even though they both have the exact same starter and wiring, I really couldn't be allowed to guess.

Sorry.

thanks for your response. its essantially the same. seein gas how I have a 3rd gen as well. I think its something wit the starter. because today I wired it up how it used to be, and it still did that. and then I took the brown (ignition switch wire that goes tot he key tumbler) off and wired up a light too it(since I dont have a test light) and when I activated the starter the light glowed, and then shut off as I released the starting position with the key.

where as if i had the starter hooked up, the starter would keep going all by itself , I could even take the key out. the only way tot stop it was to disconnect the battery. bad times LOL

tell me if you agree with me when I think its something with the starter, internally

cheers

I wasn't worried. I was fairly certain it was the solenoid.
