comp xr282hr cam in L98?

Ok guys, looks new heads will have to wait for now. Was going to go with some trickflows.

As of right now, I can get a great deal on a comp xr282hr cam.
Cam Specs Only difference on the specs is that it is cut on a 112 LSA and is a small base circle cam.

I want to run this in my carbed L98. I will install new springs, screw in studs and have the valve guides cut for clearance.

My intake is a Weiand Team-G street ram 2000-6000 rpm singleplane. The carb is a holley 3310-s with a few modifications. Im running hedman LT's with 2.5 dual custom exhaust. The trans is a 700r4 with a transgo shiftkit with 1-2 accumuator, servo, .500 boost valve and a .295 low/reverse boost valve. The rear is stock with richmond 3.73 gears. I am currently running the stock stall converter, but will go to a 2800-3000 unit.

The bottom end is the stock L98.

I know the heads will limit me for now, but will this combo work untill I get better heads? What kinda hp could I expect?

thanks for your input and advice.

another kentuckyian well the cam with "WORK" but obviously not to its potential. you should be able to drive it but depending on how long the heads are going to be maybe think about getting something smaller in the meantime. im running trickflows and something similar to the 282hr but thats in my 383. id say get a smaller cam and then jsut swap the 282hr in when the new heads come. its not too difficult and it would be another "fun" project.

What's stopping you from porting the stock L-98 heads?
These heads have tons of potential.

Yeah, not to many kentuckians around thirdgen, but there are a few.

Yeah, I know the heads will limit me. But can I get any better performance with this cam over the stock cam? Will it be a total dog with the bigger cam and just have no get up and go?

I can get the cam for $150 and the motor it came out of was only driven about 30 miles. I guess I can always put it up for now. If it will work ok, I thought I would swap it now and add the heads later.

I have never ported any heads and its not worth paying someone else to do it. However, I did recently purchase a new air compressor. Might be a thought!

Do you guys think I can get into the 12's with ported 083 heads and this cam. I would hope for low 13's at least. Or would I be better off with some vortecs?

What do you guys suggest?

Both the fully ported L98 heads or the vortec heads will get you there.
I suggest :
A hi stall 3000 rpm+ torque converter and sticky tires.

http://www.converter.cc/

www.mickeythompsontires.com I like the new ET street drag radials.

Yeah, I have some M/T Indy profile SS tires. They get sticky with a good burnout.

As far as the torque converter, I had decided on a 3000 unit from www.ptcrace.com There are quite a few guys at the local track running them. They seem to be good quaility parts and they stand behind there parts.

I just need to figure out if I should port my L98's or go with some vortecs? Both will need a machine shop for bigger spring pockets and valve guide clearance.

I have never ported a set of heads. I would just hate to ruin a good set.

Wanting to go fast and not having the money to do it sucks!!!!!

Yeah, we have London Dragway right here in town. About 10 miles away from my home. Its an 1/8 mile track, but you can run the 1/4 at test and tune. They just went from IHRA to NHRA!!

Looks like I may be able to get a set of Dart Iron eagles.
200 intake runners, 64cc , 2.05 & 1.60 valves with comp 976 springs to match the cam.

Do you guys think this would be a good setup on the 350?

Oh yeah, I can get the heads for about 750-800 with everything except roller rockers.
