Corision and Rust under battery
Corision and Rust under battery
I've been tuning up my car since I bought it a few days ago. Yesterday I removed the battery, and noticed alot of corision underneath where the battery sits from I think a leaky coolent tank. The battery looked great, its recently new, so I whipped it clean and wire brushed the ends to get the little build up off of them. Then I wire brushed and sanded everything on the bottom where the battery sits. I vaccumed it all up and then got some heavy duty rustolium black paint and painted it. It hadn't eaten through the metal yet, but was starting. Do you think what I did should helped prevent any further damage and corision? I'm going to replace the coolent tank next.
This could happen if a battery leaked at some point in the cars life. When I buy a used car, it is one of the places I check for rust. I just did a total rust prevention on my Iroc, and the battery tray got special attention. That tray, brand new, is only about 25-30 bucks, but needs to be welded in. Matt

POR-15 is good for that too, it resists the acid in case you ever have a leaky battery again.
