Losing to a civic, alas.....
I've had this problem for a while, and nobody can seem to tell me what the problem really is. My car over all runs great. I believe the engine was rebulit at some point b/c of how strong it runs. When i have the car fully warmed up, and then decide to get on the gas, (like 3 quarters) it moves. But its when I floor it, I have a big problem. When I floor it, I could seriously count to 3 b4 the car actually start moving. It hesitates like no other. Also it smells really bad after I floor it. Im thinkin its running rich, but i dont really know. I have put different cleaners in the gas tank, and have sprayed carb cleaner down the factory carb. I'm stumped on this one, Why does it hesitate so much? Anyone have or had the same problem?

I had this problem once, maybe not quite as bad as your's. I rebuilt the carb and re-set the timing and now i'm smokin the tired at WOT. I would check the timing first.

I have have done vaccum tests on it, and they came out average to above average. Thats the thing though, everything runs good, and is in working order. I just dont know why it doesnt want to move. I was reading some posts on here, and some talked about EGR problems. Could that be a reason? How would you go about doing a timing test?

Check the carb board on how to set your secondaries right. Sounds like you've got the classic quadrabog blues.

Had a similar problem with a Q-Jet on my old camaro. Turns out the the secondarys were not opening at all. The top air flaps would get sucked open but the lower butterflies weren't opening. (if I remember correctly). The problem was a little hear shaped cam I belive on the throttle shaft that was broken and not allowing the secondary's to open.

What does it smell like is it a funky bad burning smell ? I dont know how it is with carbs I sort of had the same problem with my L98. Turns out my catalyst converter was clogged changed that and she ran great after that.
