Wont start and smoking!

The car started a 2 days ago and ran fine. I parked it and my little bro a day later tried to start it and it turned over but died. He repetedly tried to start it for about 15mins. He may have flooded it. ANyway, he waited 24hrs till today to restart and it would not catch he said and eventually it started smoking from the engine bay. He said it looked to come from the carb. NOTE: the car may be nearly out of gas.

ANy suggestions? Im going home late tonight to help him out.

He said he did not hold the key over for more than 5-8 seconds at a time.
The fast idle adjustment is a little bit low, but i did start it fine two days ago, just havent had chance to change the setting as I am away from home.

I'm guessing that you will find that it was flooded, that it smoked when it finally started due to the excess fuel, and that it may continue to smoke if there was enough flooding to dilute the oil in the sump. If you detect a fuel odor in the oil, plan on changing it ASAP, or risk severe engine damage. Better yet, it might be a really good time for your li'l bro to practice his routine maintenance skills.

probably fouled your plugs as well, he'll/you'll probably notice a decrease in performance from it.
