Having Fan(not working)/overheating problems. Any Advice????????

Hi Guys

My car overheated the other night and I blew a heater hose. I replaced the hose and filled it back up with coolant. It still heated, I then noticed that the fan wasn't coming on. I tried crossing the A and B pins with a paperclip but that did not bring it on as it uaually does. (It actually made a clicking noise that was coming out from under the plenum). I changed the relay with another, It wasn't the relay, so I hooked 2 wires to the battery and to the fan and ran it direct. I still am having heating problems and am wondering if there is another sensor or switch. Would this switch cause it to heat as well? Is there a part number for it? Can I put in a performance or aftermarket one?

Have you checked the fan switch? If I recall it is located in the passenger side head, under the exhaust manifold. This activates the primary fan. There are aftermarket versions available. I was running a Hypertech before I changed the entire system to a stock version with override switch.

The stock 86 setup is controlled by the ecm, which reads temp off the coolant temp sensor in the front of the manifold.

Did the fan work when you hooked it up directly? Theres a fusible link near the battery, its between the battery and a 2 wire weatherpack connector, all the wires are orange.

The fan works great when I hook it up direct.
I am still getting a ticking noise though coming from the coolant temp sensor like it is stuck or something.Do the aftermarket fan switch kits come with a new coolant temp sensor? does anyone have a part number?

Check the fan relay. It is located at the right frotn of the engine compartment, near the MAF and air cleaner housing. I'm guessing the contacts are failing, and this one is gonna be EXPENSIVE (about ten bucks ).

Check the wires up there too... you are probably missing a bunch of insulation off of them.

I took another relay and put it in it's place and it still did not work. I just ordered the JET fan switch and hopefully this will correct my problem.

Thanks for the help.
