Intake backfire ?!

I've been chasing this symptom and trying to fix it for a few months now. I give up!

What it does basically is, from a stop, if you give it a little throtle to get the car to move, it will stumble BADLY and I can hear small pops through the intake like an intake valve is open while the gas burns in the chamber. Could it be a bent valve ? A few months ago it only used to do it once or twice when the car was very cold and I was just pulling out of the garage. But now it does it almost constantly. I've burned several chips over the course of the last few months so I think I can rule that out. Is it not getting enough fuel when it pops like that ? Because if I push the gas pedal more (power enrichment) it stops stumbling and pins me to the seat! Could it be timing ? Any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated.

That sounds to me like one or more injectors not working properly.

That could be the case... Although they're fairly new, less then a year old. Ford #24 pounders. Hmm.

The only thing i can guess is the firing order, cause when my car backfired out of my intake, that was my problem.Either maybe a couple wires are mixed up or maybe the wires are one off all the way around your distributor, anyone wanna back my idea?

Well the wires one off all around the distributor is an idea. Because the distributor as it sits... the connecters are pointing to the driver's side fender then the firwall like usual. Maybe it's a gear off or something ? I think i can rule out the crossed wires idea because the car has awesome power at topend and WOT.

I'd first check timing. Your timing chain may have stretched over time. If not, I'm not sure as to how a faulty injector might cause firing within the intake. - John '89 L98

Well as I remember from "Ford Motorsport Injector FIRE!" topics, the ford injectors do not fit properly, and may leak.

YOu might even have #5 and #7 plug wires switched around. Sounds totally stupid but a friend of mine did the same thing on his s-10 with a 383 v8 and it actually ran decent till he finally noticed it when cleaning it.

Yeah but mine runs more then decent! Deep in the 12s decent! LOL Unless I have an 11 second motor and dont know about it ? hehe

Now that I've replaced the IAC housing and motor it doesnt do it constantly anymore. As a matter of fact I dont think it has done it at all today. But it does sound like a fuel delivery problem though. Hmm
