L03 heads vs 882's...what do i do?
Hey guys,
I am swapping a 350 into my 89 RS, and upon pulling off my serpentine system, i noticed that my 882 heads on my 350 (remanufactured motor) dont have the accessory holes i need. Needless to say it was a "D'OH!!" Homer Simpson moment.
So....do i go and have the head drilled and tapped for my system or do i just have the stock 305 heads worked and bolt them on there? I know they dont flow well, but understand that this will be more of a "daily driver" type of car and will never see the dragstrip. A few "pro's" for using the stock L03 heads are that i wouldnt have to ream out the center holes for the intake to fit (im staying with the tbi, and yes i know what i need for that) and maybe a jump in compression.
Opinions, please.

I'd like to see the full casting #'s read directly off of those 350, no-accessory-holes heads.
If they are 882's, and your other available heads are LO3's, then your proper choice is Door #3 - go find some '87-up 083 heads.

ok...perhaps i didnt make myself clear. The passengers side of the head has 1 hole, in the upper left hand corner. The casting number is 333882. I think i may have 2 drivers side heads on there. Is that possible? Are the passengers side ones different?

Yes, it's possible to have two driver's side heads. Or, two passenger side heads. However, if you check the back end of the driver's side head you will see that it looks just like the front of the passenger side head, and vice versa. So, it is true that you have either two passenger side or two driver's side heads, which means in reality you have one of each. The good news is you can drill and tap the missing hole.
882, LO3, and LO5 are about the three best ways to kill performance. But, if you can be happy with it running well enough to get around, they'll be okay.
