something else I noticed this morning...

In regards to my knock/ratle sound problem.. I noticed that when I go to start it there is no oil pressure for the first 2 seconds (which is when I hear the noise) as soon as the oil pressure gauge kicks up to 3/4 of the way up the noise is gone... this takes about 2 seconds.. is it normal for it to not show oil pressure instantly or could I have a bad oil pump?? it seems to always have good pressure other than that.

Sounds like you have a drainback broblem. Try an oil filter w/ the antidrainback valve. Most companies offer it on at least on of they models.

Id imagine you have checked your oil dipstick. Sounds like you may be low on oil also.

As to whether its normal or not, the question would be, did it do this before it started rattling or not?

Just some ideas, they may not be worth a hoot, but something is something
