083 Heads from Clearwater Cylinder

I found out about this company called Clearwater Cylinder head in Florida. They claim they can sell me a set of 083 heads ported out to 2.02/1.60 w/springs to handle my ZZ4 cam for $250 each.

The price includes screw in studs/guides, stainless valves, etc.

Does that sound to cheap? All the other places I spoke with in the Boston area want around $750 to do the same work. At that price I can get a new set for $800.

Has anyone ever done business with them?

Are they "ported" or just machined to fit new 2.02 x1.60" valves?

Can they supply a flow test for those heads?

The are "ported" according to my contact.

I did not think to ask about a flow test for the heads but I will ask.

They will port my heads along with all the other work for $225, they are charging a $25 core. My contact claims they have a few sets of stock 083's ready to go and they port the 2.02's on demand which only takes an additional 48 hours in the shop.

What is your general feeling about it?

Just someting odd about the lingo used.

You don;t "port 2.02's"

Porting is carving and smoothing and reshaping the ports to improve flow.

you can remachine the head to fit larger than stock 2.02" valves but that does not involve "porting" which is $$$labour intensive$$$

If the total cost of these head is $250 US even without specific porting, Id say it's a good deal with new 2.02 x 1.60 vlaves and a nice 3 angle valve job and guide reline.

You can always dissassemble the heads when you get then and port then youself, before you instal them. These heads have good performance potential when fully "ported" along with new larger valves.

But fully porting a cast iron head is quite labour intensive.

Can/ will they flowtest them?

http://www.cylinder-heads.com/ this is them right?

Ok then I am going to call tomorrow and ask if they are machined or ported. That may just be the difference between the two heads.

Thanks for your input and I'll post when I have some more details. At this point I am leaning to go this direction but I am not there yet.

Either way it is the missing link to the motor I am building and I want to have a decent set of heads on this thing!

Well a properly modified 083 head will be a nice upgrade for a TPI motor.

Let use know how you make out with this.

Thanks... and I overlooked your link to the company. Yes that is the company.

Have you had any interaction with them or know anyone that has?
