Heatsink on the engine?? Just Maybe....

Ok heres an interesting idea I had. If your fimalar with computers and overclocking and what not, like myself. Then perhapps you know what a heatsink does. It transfers heat from the cpu through blades on the heat sink which is usually cooled with a fan.

Now think of this, a giant heat sink on the vechial engine that comes up through the hood of the car. The heatsink would transfer the engines heat up the blades and as you cruise down the highway the wind over the blades would carry away the heat.

How come we haven't tried this yet??

Does this sound alittle crazy.... Just an thought...

That would be a VW bug. Would look too retarded on our cars! Plus, how in the hell would you fit one anyway? There's no room! Liquid cooled baby!

And you would see your volumetric efficiency go down the tubes.

The best heatsinks you can buy for electronics use liquid cooling for the active device, and a remote-mounted heat exchanger sometimes including temoerature-dependent forced-air cooling... sound familiar?

While we're fantasizing, why not liquid helium cooling?

This is the way motorcycle engines have been cooled (air cooled) for many, many years, so this idea is by no means new.

I don't see any benefit in doing this to an automotive engine, though.

Ok now, I'm a custom PC builder and parts guy so i'm familiar with the concept of heatsinks you could say, as well as overclocking. Correct me if i'm wrong, but some hard core O/Cers use liquid cooling because of its ability to dissipate more heat than air cooling, remember?
