Spinning Starter

Just about everytime I go to start the car the starter will run but doesn't seem to engage. It just spins. I turn the key off and try again and it starts right up. It's been doing this all week now.
What is its problem?

I probably should. With my luck it will go out in the middle of a cold night while parked over a puddle, and then the only part store open would be autozone. So I would have to r&r it many times over. not cool
I still want to know why it spins.
The last time I did my plugs my elbow bumped into it and I found that it was really loose. I tightened it and it was fine for months now. Could this happen from the starter being misaligned or loose?

Because it's broken.

The "drive" is worn out.

It could happen from being loose. That would kind of suck; knowing that it's loose, and then not tightening it enough. It's worth a try. But don't count on a miracle.

I do not know if it is loose currently. I guess I'll venture out in the cold and check before gettting a new one.
I prefer to post before getting dirty.

Any recomendations on reliable replacement starters?

Look around for the AC/Delco reman dealer in your area. That's probably about the best way to come up with one that's both cost-effective and reliable.
