Is my car overheating?

I know that sounds like a dumb question, but my gauge will max out at 260. But the car is still running fine. Would i notice the car acting up if it was this hot? I mean my coolant level is almost perfect, i am pretty sure my fan is working. Could my temp sending unit just be way off? And how do i test my fan, i know for sure it is running with the air on. So i know that much, but do you guys think my gauge could be that off?

Could be,,, When does it reach 260?? Are you driving or parked.. Stop light....??

When did it start?
How long do you drive with the temp that high???

If you've been driving for a while and you dont stop or notice any changes.. to me it sound like the Gauge...
I could be wrong though

The gauge could very easily be that far off, or even farther. They're notoriously inaccurate and unreliable.

If it bothers you, try changing the sending unit first. I have no clue where it is in that motor since I don't mess with 6-cylinders, no doubt someone else will know though.

If your car was in fact running at 260° + you would probably notice it by the clank, thunk, rattle & ping that would accompany it. Along with the gurgle, hiss & steam coming out of the overflow and radiator.

Change the temp guage sending unit.

Definitely check the temps with a different mechanical gauge.
