I know very little about what it takes to pull the studs out, but I do know with my vortecs that .452" lift was as much as I could run without cutting the valve guides down.

On top of that, if you are talking radical cam, you will need to replace the springs, which also requires cutting, or expensive beehive springs.

It's not really a function of cam lift or valve lift as to wether the studs pull out. More to do with spring pressure and rpm.

Why not just drill and pin the studs so you don't have to worry about it.

The stock L-31 vortec heads as machined by GM definatily have a limited valve lift compatability. If you plan on installing a cam with more than .450" lift you should check and verify retainer bottom to guide boss/seal top clearance and machine down the top of the guide boss if nessessary.
(or yu definiatly be pul;ling the studs and bending pushrods etc.)

Vortec heads work very well but do need the extra valvetrain
preperation to get them ready for high performance use.

All part of the joys.
