Cruise Control Diagnosis
My cruise control doesn't work -- surprise surprise. I know that it's not the fuse
but I've never dived into it beyond that. Is there a common problem with the cruise control system on my 1985 T/A that I should look at or what?
A checklist of things that could be wrong or something similar would be greatly appreciated as I've never attempted to mess with a cruise control system before and I don't want to have a revelation three hours after I'm attempting to decide what to look at first

I would check the actual box by the washer fluid container. check to see if the plugins are intact or some one might have done to your CC what they did to bolth of my cruise units "gutted them" B\C these units like to stick and blow out the speedometer.
Also If anyone knows if the cruise unit will work in an older model "82" WO the computer let my know so I can fix my problem.

There are vacuum switches in the interior, 1 if it's an auto and 2 if it's a stick shift. There will be one on the brake pedal; and one on the clutch. They remove the vacuum from the servo when the pedal is pushed, and the one on the brake has electrical stuff too. The vacuum part requires careful adjustment, as anything less than full travel will keep it from working.

In my 89 IROC the problem was the switch itself. Actually the wire coming from the switch was cut through by the washer tab right there where it enters the column. On mine there is actually I think 4 wires in a Black sleeve. The dealership charges over 100 bucks for the "multi-function lever". Maybe this helps maybe not, but I'd check the switch first, if the cruise doesn't work at all. Unless of course it just doesn't hold. Then go elsewhere.
