New Car oil changes
New Car oil changes
I've never actually bought/owned a new car but I keep hearing stuff about dealers telling people to not change their oil for like 10k miles. Not that I care what they say, if it was my car the oil would get changed, but just wondering what the deal with this is and whether there is any merit to this...i mean most cars are under warranties these days so if it was gonna kill it i dont see why they'd tell people that??? Especially for the first 10k miles why would you not change your oil?? Do they do break ins before they sell cars?

Manufacturing techniques and controls are much, much better than they were even 20 years ago.
Personally, if I ever happened to get a new car, the oil would be changed as soon as I got home - to AMSOIL with an AMSOIL filter. It would get changed once a year after that.
As far as the warranty goes, they only want the car to last as far as the warranty goes. Keeping the factory fill oil in the engine for 10k miles isn't going to keep it from doing that.
