What causes hot start, I know timing but what is it that makes the car act like that when you go to start it again???

What physically makes the car seam harder to turn over for a sec???

Askin cause

I just vacuum time my 350 and it does make one heck of a difference.

Though I kept it on ported Vac. Pulling 18-19in sounds really good at idle and performs great while driving but I get that darn hot start.

What causes that??? I know timing but what is actually doing it.

Like the motor is hydro locked for a few turns, then it spins free and fires up.

I was gonna back it down a tad but it sounds so smooth at 19-18

Is the hot start hurting anything???

What starter motor is on this engine?

Generally, with factory [starter] motors, being as weak as they are, lack the power to overcome their heat soaked copper windings. Copper obviously loosing its conductivity as it absorbs heat.

Well the car started fine before vac timing.
And so far its only started hot 3 times.

The engine struggles then fires. Never happened before.

I just wondered what physically does this.

I assume if I backed my timing off it would not do this. And just wonder how timing can physically make an engine harder to turn over for a sec.

I just went and tried it and it turn over real nice. I guess it is just heat and iffy hot wires. The better timing mkes the car run hotter and why I just noticed it. aey????

No, the advancing the timing does not make the car run hotter; it makes it run cooler, if it affects it at all.

The reason it creates the hot-start problem, is because the spark occurs long before the piston reaches the top of th ecompression stroke; so the mixture lights off and tries to push the piston down, which would turn the motor backwards at that point, against the stupid little weenie stock POS GM starter motor doing its pitiful inadequate best to turn the motor the right way.

The REAL solution is to get that Stone Age crappy direct-drive Delco joke starter off of your car, and put something designed within the last 60 years or less onto it.

I strongly recommend a "mini-starter". They weigh less, and use about half as much battery power, and typically have 2-4 times the HP of the Flintstones thing your car came with.
