Converting to open air breathers

Ok I just bought a pair of Edlbrock valve covers. I put them on and now I'm having trouble with the PVC fittings. The hole on the new valve covers is too big for the stock rubber elbow. So I figured I would just convert to an open air breather. I have a couple of questions about that.

1) What will this do to the performance/emissions. Or can this lead to any problems?

2) Do I put a breather on both valve covers, or do I plug one and put an open air breather on the other.

3) I assume I plug all holes leading into my intake system right?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Put a breather in one and find a PCV valve that fits the other.
