I'm in the middle of changing my intake manifold but i have a few problems/questions.
I bought a new Edelbrock Performer for my V8 305 TA. 4bbl.
Anyways I put it on, got everything what i thought was back together but when i tried to start it up it started leaking coolant and a lot of oil.
I also changed the valve covers.
Oil had sprayed all over under the hood. On the driver side of the distributor in that area.
Now I have it all apart again, i was just going to try again. But i figure i should take it slow this time and do it right.
One of my questions is.. Does engine oil go through the engine cavity(under the intake) and coolant go through there. Or Is it just coolant which goes through there???
Would it be the valve covers or ... Could it be the intake which was leaking oil?
Also.. Should i put RTV sealent all over the gasket? Or not on the gasket or what?
I think it leaked the first time because i didn't put it on properly.
I would really appreciate an answer.. I could use the help.. Thanks!!

Put sealant on the intake bolts, because not all of them go in blind. Did you use the gasket that came in the kit for the front and back of the manifold? If you are throw those away and get a tube of black silicone and run a 1/4 in. bead along the front and back of the block. Also use some sparingly around the ports and coolant passages. This should help with your leaking. Also make sure all sensors and what not are screwed in tight.

Ya okay, you say the oil pressure sending unit?
That has to do with the bronze thingy sticking up?
What goes in there? I don't remember taking anything out... although i was excited and did a lot of things wrong..
Also... USe the silicone sparingly?? How sparingly.. It will still work right???
I put a thin layer ont the whole gasket..

Yeah, the "bronze thingy" would be where the sending unit goes... it's kind of like a little can maybe 3" long and 2" in diameter with a wire terminal at one end and 1/8" pipe thread on the other. That would make one helluva mess if the engine ran without it there, you could end up with 4 quarts of oil all over creation in about 10 seconds. If that happened I don't know how you'd even be able to tell you had an antifreeze leak.

You don't need silocone on the valve cover gasket, just put it on the front and back of the block where the manifold sits. You want to cover the whole edge and have it leak over just slightly. Use it sparingly on the passages, you don't want to obstruct anything, but you still want it to seal tight.
