Ok so my car has been a little hard to start so I go to bump the timing back a little "it helped" But any way well I was in the adjusting mood I decided to advance the timing to see where It would start pinging and then back it off and reset it. I got it full advance with no idle ping "all the way to the manifold" and gave it a little rev to see if it would ping like a motha. Well to my supprise the exhuast started blowing out white smoke??? Whats up with that? non cc carb.

It won't ping at idle, only when you put it under load. It could be way out and you would never know it.
Sometimes it won't even ping with a snap of the throttle.
This is why they make timing lights.

Yeah, this has to rank as the funniest thing i heard all week. I can't oofhand of anything you could have broken though for the white smoke w/o actually loading the engine though.
But yeah, the old 'advance till it pings' means atfull load WOT operating temps, normal gas. Not see how far you can turn the distributor till it fires the wrong plug, lol.
