should I make my 305 and 327?

I was reading that if you put a 350 crank in a 305 you get a 327. Has anyone here done that and was it worth it. Would I have to get 350 rods? Would this give my 305 the same stroke as a "real" 327. I plan on rebuilding and putting it on a 100 shot of nos.

A 305 DOES have the same stroke as a 350 crank. If you stroke it with a 400 crank (3.75") and bore it .030" over, it becomes a 334.

A 327 is a 4" bore (same as a 350) with a 3.25" crank.

I would have to say no on this one and go get a nice 350. I have thought about making a 335 or 334 (heard both) but I have decided to just get a Ram Jet 350 instead more power hands down than any 335/334

280 horses out of a 335 isn't very much....stoking an engine usually gives you much more than that.

no, a 305 and 350 have the exact same stroke, which is 3.48 inches.

the bore of a 305 is 3.74 inches
350 is 4 inches

a 327 is a 4 inch bore with a 3.25 inch stroke crank.

I don't know how these stories get started. You can't "make" a 327 out of a 305, as said above, because of the wall thickness of the casting. Even a 3.75" crank in a stock bore 305 block (good luck finding pistons for that off the shelf) make it a 328.7 cu in.

When you get right down to it, 280 hp out of a 305 cubes isn't that hard. But, if you're doing it with a 100 hp shot, be sure to do it right. Nitrous done wrong is bad for any engine.

By the way, factory SBC rods are all 5.7" long, except 400 which were shorter. Big end sizes did change, however, most 327's being smaller than all 350's and 305's.

Sure you can... anything's possible with enough duct tape and bondo! Go for it
