Set timing in Neutral or Drive??
Set timing in Neutral or Drive??
As the auto official idle speed is achieved in Drive rather than neutral, will a slightly better timing result be achieved setting it with the car in drive (it affects the reading 1-2 degrees)
The reason I ask this, my car runs perfect but is hard to start -sounds like it's starting "off beat" when warm (left for an hour or two) but will start straight away if only just switched off or totally cold. Not a starter issue; that turns strong.
I'm just wondering if a slight difference from N to D (about 200RPM between them) could make this much difference. Problem has arrisen ever since changing the distributor.
thanks

Neutral with the EST unpluged is the best way to set the base. The ECM will add timing based on your base setting.
