Faulty O2 sensor?

I posted earlier that I had trouble with connecting my new Air/Fuel gauge to my O2 sensor wire; first I couldn't pinpoint it, but alas, I was right and I had it connected properly. However, the gauge isn't operating as it should. Now, could this be due to a bad O2 sensor? I've also noticed I get crummy MPG lately (past 3 months)...like 4 gallons less. Maybe it's just me, or could this be it?

How is the gauge not operating properly? What is it or is not doing?

Properly operating O2 sensors switch rapidly between RICH and LEAN. They should be fixed RICH at WOT and fixed LEAN during Decel.
