Odd leaky injector question
Odd leaky injector question
I've finally got the fuel rail pulled up and I primed the pump several times. The #1 injector is dripping at a rate of about 1 drop every 30 minutes, and the pressure goes from 40psi to 10psi in the same time frame. Is this one little drop of fuel enough leakage to cause a 30psi pressure drop? Keep in mind that it may evaporate pretty quickly too, so it's probably more like 3 drops of leakage.
Also, could this be responsible for hard starting, being such a small leak? One other interesting point, I found just under a quart of gas in the oil after the car sat for 5 weeks or so, removed the fuel tank cap and haven't had a problem since. All because of one little barely leaking injector????? I'm at my wits end, diagnosed the entire fuel system (pinching hoses, etc.) and this is all I can find. Thanks for the help, guys.

To answer your question....YES.
A leaking injector is equal to pumping the gas pedal about 400 times and trying to start the car on a carbed setup. Yes to the PSI drop too.
Have your injectors (all of them plus the cold start valve if you have one) reconditioned and flow matched by:
http://www.cruzinperformance.com/
About 100 bucks including the felpro gasket set you'll need. When you get them back even though they will have new o-rings, order the GM Factory Big Blue Beefy o-rings and put them on.
You will be amazed at how your car runs after this service.

Thanks Mike. Cruzin performance is a great place, but I just got these injectors from cruzin performance three months ago to replace my junk stock ones, they're Accel 23#. You really think that one little drip every half hour or so can cause a problem? I always figured a leaking injector would dribble at a faster rate, but I guess I was wrong. Rich said I could send it back to him, but he'd have to send it to Accel and they will send me a new one. Not sure I want to wait that long. Thanks for any more advice you may have.

Yes, just the fact that it drips at all is a problem, but what you don't know, is how much it drips any other time. I have seen some injectors not drip at all, but every once in a while drip like crazy, then go back to not dripping again for awhile.
Personally, I think reconditioned injectors suck. Not to knock Cruizin, I'm sure they do an awsome job, but I had a friend who bought a set from them, and let them sit for several months with the caps still on, and when he went to use them and all 8 were dead as a doornail. Not a single one would fire. The fact that these are leaking only after 3 months only strengthens my point.

Thanks GMTech. They're not reconditioned though, but brand new Accel injectors. I also noticed that if I ran my finger over the tips of any of them I could get a slight amount of liquid fuel, but only that one was dripping it, and very slowly. Should I worry about all of them? Should I try to send them all back and get SVOs instead? Thanks guys, this is really driving me nucking futs

Jethro,
I'm thinking you should ask Rich what he thinks. I can't attest to a new injector vs. a rebuilt BUT I can attest to how good & fair of a guy Rich is. He won't steer you wrong.
Tell him what you encountered and that "none" of them should be leaking. Ask him what he thinks and tell him 8800 3rd Gen'ers are awaiting his reply.......LOL.

Thanks guys. I think I will just send back the one that dripped tomorrow and see where it goes from there. If I send them all back I might as well ask for my money too and go for some SVOs. Thanks again for your help.

I just want to state that I posted some BAD info. The injectors that I mentioned before DID NOT COME FROM RICH @ CRUISIN PERFORMANCE. (thats what I get for sticking my nose in other peoples biz). They actually came from Street & Performance. I'm very sorry for that.
Just to let everybody know what a top notch, world class buisness Cruisin Performance is, once Rich caught wind of this post, he was very concerned in following through w/ his 110% Satisfaction Garuntee and emailed me to see what was up. Definatly somebody who you want to do buisness with.
Once again, sorry for the bad info.

Cruzin performance IS a good business, it's Accel that I'm not too sure about. Rich is sending me a new injector this week so I'll let you know how it pans out. Their customer service has been excellent since the first time I talked to him. Again, thanks for your help guys. Hopefully this will get my problem fixed.

For those V6 guys out there, Rich took good care of my 2.8 injectors- and I had them back in my hands before I had time to think about 'em!
