HELP QUICK!!! Car is Sputtering?????

I started my car today, it idled fine, but when I give it gas the car sputters through the exhaust. Could it be water in the gas perhaps, what else should I check. I smelled gas when I was revving it in park. I need to get this fixed, I have to drive 200 miles home in like 3 days.

Also I noticed that around my PCV there was a little bit of oil, could that be going bad and cause this problem. I had a similar problem a while back. On valve covers I only had the T-handles that stick up with no guide plates. So I put one hold down on each valve cover(they were just laying around), and the sputtering went away. This weekend I actually bought enough hold down plates for the valve covers, could I have overtightened the hold downs.

OK, this may sound like a stupid question, but should the PCV valve have a slight smell of gas to it. I checked all the hoses running to the carb and there should be no vacuum leak.
Another thought I had was, lately my car hasn't been pulling as hard, I know it could be several things, but I was thinking could my fuel filter be clogged which has gotten worse and making my car sputter on acceleration.

I replaced the PCV valve, no luck. Anyone have any ideas, the car idles kind of rough now, at 600 rpm's but doesn't drop below 500 rpm's.
