How much is too much?

Is $7000 too much for a 88 IROC 5.7L 350, Flowmaster exhaust, CD PLayer. Paint is good, it shines, but its not great. 65000 miles. And a broken tranny mount (eek I hope its that If I do buy it)Interior is perfect. New tires. Everything else works.

I keep makin threads asking about price, sorry.

But im seriously thinking of paying 7 Grand, am I crazy? You guys seem like a smart bunch, just wanna get your guys advice

He baught the car and made many repairs. Now hes ready to sell and it seems like he wants every penny he put into the car.

He has $7500 or best offer. So then he came down to $7200 But Im sure I can get him to 7 grand.

I paid $3000 for my 88 IROC with a new engine, new transmission, new shocks, new struts, new tires, new rear hatch motor, full 3 inch edelbrock exhaust, new paint, basically new everything.

I got a scarp book with over $7500 worth the receipts with it.

But go to http://www.kellybluebook.com and look up what it is worth. By all means I think $7000 is a rip off, I will sell you my 93 Trans Am for that.

nooo.. im leaning towards saying its high. i've been looking hard for a 90-92 Z28, 350 for a while now, and most of the cars that are 50-60k miles go for around 6grand. i've sen some 60-70k mile cars go for 5k. if he took 6 for it , possibly 5500 i'd get it.. if its in very good shape. check the tranny thing too before you buy it. just offer him 5500 cash and see what he says, its not the last iroc in existance

Thanks for the replys.

I offered Him 6500 and he's like I atleast want 7. There are 4 other IROC's for sale here (there all 86's w/ 305's) and no one is buying them. There in great shape and asking a reasonable price. So I dont see this kid selling his car for 7200. He NEEDS to sell it. So I guess ill just wait for him to come down.

Personally, I don't see buying that car at that price with a possible tranny prob and a so-so paint job. You could probably get a better price from a dealer. I've seen cars like mine in near-perfect condition go for close to 10k even though they are blue-booked for far less.

If you absolutely love the car, and plan on keeping it for a while then go for it.

I dunno about those blue book prices. I put in a dummy car. '91 Z28 (5.7 TPI) with 15K miles and perfect everything including all the luxury options and it said $6000. No one with that kind of 3rd Gen would ask anywhere close to $6000.

Just purchased my 1985 Z28 for 1400$ (CDN)

Needs a paint job, and i had to spend about 700$ on brakes, alternator, starter, battery, and a few other small parts.

Maybe if you look around you may find one cheaper than 7 G's ( im assuming thats US dollars ) Mine as u can see cost me around 2 g's canadian.

Good luck !

I've seen those cars too.. that have over a 100k on them and they still want like 7 grand. screw that. its like on auto trader one time, i saw a 90 rs with like 130k miles, it was in pretty good shape, but they wanted friggin 8500 for it or something.. its laughable. just because there are some people out there that will tell you their car is worth 7k, dont believe it. keep looking--also, are you willing to spend the money to upgrade a 305 so it will perform like a 350? or do you think you should start with a 350?

The blue book is really only accurate on later model cars, 1995+. When you are dealing with 3rd gens alot of it boils down to what a person wants and what they is willing to pay for what options they want. I am not an expert nor do I claim to be but I have found several 3rd gens for friends and it all boils down to what you might be willing to sacrifce. For example, some people have their hearts set on a factory 5.7L car but they might have to sacrifice finding one with a nice interior or t-tops. Some people want a t-top IROC with an automatic, in this case they will probably find alot of 305's and very few 350's. Again, it all depends what they are willing to sacrifice. Its kinda like the prices of 1st gen Camaro's, do you really want a #'s matching 69 RS/SS Camaro for $30K or would you give $10 for a clone that has all the same equipment but not the numbers. Personally, I would go for the clone, no one can read your trim tag when you pass them at 60 MPH. Again, what do you really want and really have to have.

Poor college student(donations welcome ;0) with an all stock 1988 5.7L IROC-Z Hardtop, Auto. trans, white ext. w/gold accents (soon to be silver), black custom cloth interior, 4-wheel discs and G92 pkg. Car is dead stock. Has only standard Z28 power options and all the IROC performance stuff you could get. No pwr. seats, mirrors, or rear defrost.

Best run: 1/4 14.90 @ 92.7 MPH
