Blown head gasket?

What a way to start my Friday night...

First of all, it's an 89 Firebird Formula 350. I've had the car for about 2 months now with no problems. I'm running straight water because I've gone to the local track for the street legals.

Anyway, I was on my way home from work when I noticed there was a slight miss, it was rainy and a bit cold, so I thought it might need a new cap/rotor. In stop and go traffic, it started to overheat. I stopped the car before it got too high. It sounded like the coolant was boiling over in the resevoir. I looked at the resevoir, and it was very dirty, and smelled like gas/oil. When the car cooled down enough I opened the cap and the rad looked empty... same gas smell.

I tried starting the car after it got towed home, but it doesn't turn over... this would mean there is water in the cyllinders right?

If someone could let me know what to look for and how to troubleshoot this, it would be great. I'm not that experienced with problems of this magnitude. I can change my oil etc, but that's about it.

It looks like I'll have to take things off down to the heads right? What should I think about doing while it's apart like this? New cam? Might as well take advantage of this crappy situation.

Thanks guys.

Is there water in your oil? Oil in your water? Pull out a spark plug, is it really clean? Does water come out?

You're in for lots of fun, might as well replace some stuff.. I would reccomend:
camshaft(gear puller, balancer puller)
timing chain
timing cover gasket set(with water pump/cover gasket/oil pan seal)
intake manifold gaskets
maybe rocker arms, pushrods, lifters, etc.
port your intake
have your heads checked and a valve job
clean stuff!(it will look real nice )
adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

There is a ton of things you could do. You're gonna get to change your oil too!(and coolant, remove radiator, condenser etc. if you do the cam)
