10:1 compression - stock starter

Another problem - My engine turns over very slow. Its a 335 stroker at about 10:1 compression. Once I do get it started the oil pressure is very high (over 80) someone posted before that it might be a clearance problem with the bearings or something. Could this be the problem or do I just need a heavy duty starter?

I dont have any problems running 11:1 with a stock starter but lets see if we can narrow it down a bit before you speend some $$$ on a HO starter. Oil pressure isnt really relevent and cant be diagnosed as tight bearings.

How fresh is the engine "miles"?
How old is the starter?
What condition is the battery in?
Did you try backing the timing off a bit?

Easy ones 1st The engine could be a bit tight if theres not many miles on the engine making it harder to start.
The starter, "if old" could be tired and in need of replacement.
The battery could also be going south. It could hold the proper amount of votage and seem to be operating correctly but it may not have enough cranking amps to turn the starter on cold startup.
The timing could be affecting the starting procedure is its too quick you might want to back it off a bit and see if it helps.

Also does it only act up when cold or does it act the same after running then sitting for a few minuts? Its a PITA to change bearings especially if it doesent help.

Thanks for your reply. The engine is just been rebuilt (0 miles) Starter and battery are both new. I just got a timing light and will check it tomorrow.
