Vortec CPI wired to TBI
I realize this is the thirdgen site , but you guys seem very knowledgeable about this stuff so...
I Just picked up a 97 vortec 350 for cheap to put in my 92 tbi truck, and I was thinking.... I may be on glue, but could I not just install a high pressure fuel pump, plumb in my MAP sensor and hook the existing two wire injector harness up to the 8 on the vortec intake in 2 sets of 4 ? I would have to reprogram the injector size in the PROM obviously, but it should essentially work as batch injection as I believe the TPI motors do. Throttle body seems to have the usual TPS and IAC so they should be fine.
Any comments/experience with this ? I realize I could buy the TBI/vortec intake but by the time I plumb in the EGR etc, seems this could work out much cheaper.

everything i've read says stay away from the stock vortec cpi setup. something about the style of injection not being all the good for horsepower/modding. i believe it is a less reliable setup than tbi/carb/tpi.
i myself just plan on running the vortecs with a carb manifold and either the tbi body or something a bit more aftermarket (still in the building stages of my megasquirt setup)....
however, i dont plan on having an egr, so that may play a bit into your decision (havent had one in the last 2-3 yrs)

yes, thanks for the advice. I think I will end up going with a vortec/tbi intake and probably a holley 670 throttle body. I just thought that if anybody had done this with decent results I would give it a try since the throttle body/intake will probably run me $4-500 even for used stuff.

Coolant leaks from the intake gaskets, the plastic upper intakes crack and allow vacuum leaks, finally the injector spyders go out.
