Hardware (bolts, etc.) question....

Am I okay to use bolts and stuff from the hardware store for stuff like the alternator bracket, holding the pully onto the water pump, etc.? or do i need to buy automotive specific hardware? I'd prefer to go with like ARP or whatever but paying 7 or 8 bucks for 3 or 4 bolts just isnt worth it to me IMO....

I don't usually see grade 8's at my hardware store.
Just check the markings on the bolt head, the ones at the hardware store usually have no marks. Grade 2 right?

grade 5 = 3 marks
grade 8 = 5 marks
correct?

All grade 8 fasteners will be marked with the 5-slash marks. Those with no markings or just a mfg Id , I would not use for any stress or critical applications.
