missing and blue smoke...wreaks of fuel

hey folks..hows it going???.....hopeing someone can help me out here so here it go's

installed a new dist for my 88 350 TPI,and a Accel coil (same look as stock..its just yellow in color..bolts the same way as old coil did..OEM divorced type) I had already established TDC for # 1 earlier BEFORE I pulled out the old Dist.dropped the new one in did my best to have the rotor line up like the old one did...I can't get it to point right at the # 1 post on the cap....its either after it closer to the #8 post or before it just after the # 2 post..so i went with "closer" to #8 post..she slid right down in no problem...now i have a constant miss....and I see blueish type smoke out the back(worse when you raise the throttle of course)and i smell fuel...(rich) now i rechecked..and checked again my fireing order..18436572..clock wise..and its good..all wires are hooked up correctly.and the base timeing..is @ O' with wire disconnected..then reconnected after setting timeing(shut down before hooking wire back together)I have checked each injector and they are all ticking(of course doesn't mean they are squirting I guess) but am I a 'tooth" off????? in the dist gear??? i have not pulled any thing else..nor i have touched the plug wires yet.waiting for advise before I dig myself a hole.Man...MAN..I hope its not a valve problem...the blueish smoke has me scared.(hope its just unburn't fuel)never did this before the dist change.Old one came out do to corroded wires and such..it wasn't healthy..so i stepped up and replaced the whole thing.no codes btw.I hope this is an easy fix.... but I know you guys will get me pointed in the right direction,(HA..no pun intended)and I thank you for the help.OH btw..the miss is constant even when i rotate the dist counter clock and clock wise..stumbles real bad if I go to far counter and idles real low to stalling when I rotate to far clock wise.(advance and retard)

Can't be one tooth off, unless it's not engaging the oil pump drive shaft, or you're aligning the oil pump shaft to where you think the rotor should point to. The only other position the distributor can engage the oil pump shaft is 180° from the first one, if the oil pump shaft is still where it was when the distributor was pulled out..

The way the gear is designed, you can't drop it in straight down without re-aligning the oil pump shaft because the gear causes it to turn a little as it goes down for the last 1/2" or so.

Drop the distributor straight down about one tooth counterclockwise from where you want it, it'll be where it was before when it sits flush with the intake surface. If your a tooth of it's probably not sitting flush with the intake, if it is then there's a problem with the Distributor key/oil pump shaft slot engagement.

You know??? It was funny(can laugh now)..as soon as I put my eye ***** right at the problem(dist not all the way in) I blurted out loud "AAA HAAA!!" " GOT YOU NOW" My kids were playing in the yard and came running over "whats wrong daddy???"LMAO. What a relief Garcia...I was starting to think I had a busted valve spring..or a valve problem, but thanks to your help.

Thanks again Garcia for your help.I have other issues with the vehicle that need to get fixed...but now the running part is solved,You may see me in here time-to-time posting away looking for advice. Will catch ya later.
