Best EFI setup for Vortec 383
Im building a Protopline Vortec 383 with 9.63:1 comp ratio, and the comp cams XE268H(net yet bought). This is a non emissions swap for my V6 firebird. Bottem end is Scat 9000 383 2piece seal crank, Scat Screw Cap I-beam rods, SealedPower Hyper 383 pistions.
Ive got the longblock done but for the cam installed. Im confident if i go carbed i know i can do low 13s possibly high 12s, but im looking for a bit more than that, this is a daily driven car, but i would like something that could hit low 12's to 11's. I'm considering carb + NOS cheater setup with 100hp lvls, that will get me to mid12s pretty easy. But im likeing the idea of fabing up a turbo setup. Being daily driven i know the Carb + blow through set up would really not work, TPI has issues breathing enough power to keep the powerband wide, and Accels DFI setup is alittle out of my pricerange. Im trying to stay around the $700 area on a EFI setup, anyideas on what to look for used? I saw an LT1 intake converted.
Should i just look for a common Intake thats been converted to EFI, stick a TB on it, and a ECM/wiring from an L98/LT1 car with all the sensors?

I plan on doing almost the exact same setup you are and im planning on using the hsr vortec. Its good past 7000rpms and it supports more low end torque than the lt1 intake. Its also very reasonably priced. Have you seen the article posted on here where some magazine tested a bunch of intakes on a 383 with trick flow heads? It had a huge cam in it streetwise, so id figure 30hp less with the vortecs. check it out.

Yea after posting i did more searching, the kind i should have before i posted. Im going to probly go TPI Computer with speed density, and then HSR, ive got a bird, so ill have to trim out the hood for it to fit, but thats another good excuse for me to go Cowl
or ram air 1. Im having plans of boost latter down the road, and the HSR is supost to be responding verywell with even cylender filling under boost. The engine being built now will probly be carbed for a while, as i want a drive asap, and dont want to fiddle with tuning yet with a comp. Its hard to resist going supercharger, seeing how i got ATI Procharger about 5min away from me, their install and office headcorders

I know what you mean about the supercharger, ive been thinking about it too, but I dont know how long id survive with 600hp under the hood. I think your gonna want some different heads if you plan on blowing it. My car is going to be a daily driver and really the main thing holding me back from blowin it is the gas mileage, although with a centrifugal, as long as I didnt get on it all the time, I wonder if it would decrease the gas mileage much.

Also if your just going for high 11's, a 383 with hsr and vortecs, suspension, and most importantly a good hook to the asphalt, should be very feasable without a supercharger. Thats what im aiming for. Im gonna leave the 500+ hp to the weekend only nova.
