Filler neck symptoms/funky gas leak...
Filler neck symptoms/funky gas leak...
Checked the archives, but didn't find anything like what I've got.
If I have more then a quarter tank, and I make a hard right, gas sloshes out of the tank and runs down the quarter panel. Smells like hell, looks ghetto, and the stuff is expensive!
I already put a new cap on, didn't solve squat. Any other ideas what this could be caused by?
Thanks ahead.

This would be caused by a leak perhaps?
We can't see your car any better than you can, it's not really close enough to your monitor or something...
No doubt the filler neck is damaged in some way. Look at it closely, maybe compare it to another car. A clue to the location of the leak might be to identify where the gas comes out, the leak should be right about there.

There was a recall on the filler neck in '92, not sure about other years. The welds were bad or something.
Also, I don't know if other people have this problem, but my cap doesn't really fit right - I get the '3 Clicks' after just a couple turns of the raised handle in the middle. If I leave it like that, gas leaks out exactly like your describing. However, you can further tighten the cap by turning the cap by it's outer edge instead of using the handle. That might be your problem.

I think the filler neck recall also extended to '91, but, he says gas runs down the 1/4 panel. If the problem was the recall, gas would be running down the tank onto the hot muffler...
Did some gas station moron muscle the pump into the filler neck? Or do you have the self-serv stations? We have full-serv in NJ, where it's "illegal to pump your own gas"... not only do those morons love to drip gas down my car, but I saw one try to use my gas door to keep the gas nozzle in my filler neck! I nearly decked him...

It looks like what it sounds like. It seems to be pouring right out the filler, as if there was no cap at all. I've noticed that screwing the cap in thing. It didn't seem to help when I got a much tighter cap though.
Any other ideas?
