Emission and a/c pumps?

Can I totally get rid of the entire emission systems on an 88 camaro without affecting the runability of it? Or do I need some of the stuff to keep the car running? My buddy wants to get rid of the a/c and emission system on his car. Have any of you done this? What all will I need to do? If nothing else, I need to know how to remove the a/c pump and power steering pump. We can't seem to get them out, where are all the bolts that need to be removed? W/the a/c compressor, we have all the bolts out except the one that connects to the bracket that mounts on the block. The bolt that holds the bracket to the block WILL NOT BUDGE. We have stood on top of the car to try and loosen in and it won't moove. I'm letting it sit overnight with some liquid wrench on it and maybe that will help. If I don't get that bracket off then I can't remove th elast stud that is holding the a/c compressory in. I'm asking because if my friend can remove the a/c compressory(since he doesn't want a/c and wants to reduce the weight) and get rid of the emission system then he wants to just cut the bracket in half to get it off. What do you gusy think? I took pictures of all the emissions stuff and the engine bay if you guys want them...Help me out.

hey, i did the exact same thing to my car tonite. removed all those pumps, car is running fine now. there is one big bolt behind the top of the pully on the bottom pump, and there are 2 bolts at the bottom of the bracet and 1 nut froma stud near the waterpump and maybe one more i am forgeting about. i managed to get all the bolts out(had to take off the pully first) to get the big long one. i could not get the top bolt of the two in the bottom of the bracket. i ended up using a sawzall to cut the bracket away from that last bolt and took it out afterwards. theres lots more room in the engine bay now, and bout 30-40 pounds off the front end.

Do you have any pictures of what you did? Where did you get a serpentine belt to fit and how did you make it work?

You'd have to reclaim the refigerant and pull it. I'm pretty sure that you could bypass and still run the AC w/o it, but not for long (& maybe not for all -- I'm not an AC guy, but my roommate is).
