Cheap Auto Insurance - IROC-Z Camaro at 17

I am 17 and planning on buying my neighbors 1989 IROC-Z t-top Camaro with V8 engine. Right now I am trying to find an affordable insurance, I have found some that I can afford (by the skin of my teeth) but I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or personal experiences that would help me find a good insurance company.

well you are 17 and your insurance will be high to start and to put also in the mix your will be driving and insuring an iroc-z. also depending on your premium remember that if the car is totaled your payback is blue book unless appraised. I would say be prepared to pay

You're totally screwed no matter what you do. Luckily my insurance is finally dropping with age. Kids get screwed over so bad. Good luck but I think rates are all going to be about the same, very high.

PS all IROCs are V8s.

No matter what you drive it will be high. I drove a 78 Subaru when I was 17 and paid a ton. The IROC is going to be even higher because it's a high performance car. But not because it is valuable. The insurance company is far more worried about what damage you'll cause to someone else when you lose control showing off for your buddies in your badass V8 sports car.
While I'm not saying thats something you would do, lord knows I had more than a few friends who did.
I have no idea of your experience, you could be the next Fittipalldi, but generally speaking a 17 year old in a sports car is pretty much a no brainer for an insurance company to see a high risk potential. BTW if you don't keep your record clean you won't be able to afford insurance on a Camaro when you are 30 either
