AC Blower motor Question.......

How can I make my blower motor blow more powerful? My AC is ice cold, but with the switch on high, it just isn't that powerful. None of my ducts are leaking. Can I install a more powerful blower motor, like one out of a 4th gen?¿
It just seems like alot of other cars I have had blew alot better. My 88 GTA was the same way and so was my 87 T/A (WEAK!). There has to be a fix for this.
Thanks guys!
Mike

Me and a couple guys at work have been looking at this. We have several new body style Grand Prix blower motors which put out about 3 times the air of our blower motors. A guy found the wiring he needed but when he went to put it in, he found out this blower is a lot bigger and would require cutting up the a/c housing so he scrapped the idea. I havn't done anything since. If you don't mind cutting up the housing, they will work but I don't know of a bolt-in.

Hey Snakeskinner, to bad they are bigger, or that would be an easy fix! But I don't want to cut up the car. There has to be a more powerful blower motor that will work. I can't believe that with the way these things blow stock, that there isn't alot of people complaining.

If you get a positive response to this one, I'd like to know as well. I agree, there has to be a blower motor that works better than the ones we've got. I've often thought the same thing, just never did anything about it. We really should be complaining, long and loud.

Well at least I know that I am not the only one with this problem. I searched through all the tech articles searching for a cure to this problem, but had no luck. I thought at one time on this board someone posted about putting a 4th gen blower in, and it made a big difference, and bolted right in. But it was a couple of months ago, and I can't find that post anymore. God knows in Florida here, I need more air flow.

you could do it many ways. with the AC on max it blows fine for me. but that has smaller resistors that allow for more current into the blower motor. you could wire up a swich and a relay with no resistors that allow higher curent to reach the blower motor. another option is to weld up a higher output motor to the blower mounting plate or you could just jbweld it. but that is not going to solve a thing unless you get more power to it. another option is to get a little jap car electric ram air setup and mount it to the blower houseing that would blow some serious air. it would be expensive though.

hummm, my motor won't work on high at all, you are saying that if I ran a wire right to the motor from the high switch then it would work??? I won't melt the switch will I??

Hey Camaro 6 speed, check the High blower Relay. I had that go on my 88 and my 87, and it caused me to have no high blower. You can jump it to check it. If I remember correctly it is right near the accumulator near the firewall. Hope this helps you a little. I believe it is cheap also, around $12

so has anyone figured out what we can do to get the AC to blow harder? A blower motor from another car or what? Gotta find a good solution to this before the temp hits 95-100 in jersey.

Not yet man, but there has got to be something we can do to make the system blow more powerful! It is driving me crazy.

Since the last post was a while ago, I thought I'd check up on the status of a better motor. Has anyone heard anything more about an improved blower motor? Thanks.
