A/C on engine dies
A/C on engine dies
Looking for some help here boys and girls.
Just took a 600 mile trip and the car ran
like a champ (28 mpg), the only problem I
had was with the A/C on. Every time I would
stop, the engine would die. A/C off, idle
fine at 900 rpm. With the A/C on isn't it
supposed to kick-up the idle?, because if it is mine does'nt. What or where should I look
for? THANKS FOR THE HELP

Blue,
Make sure the minimum air position is set correctly and the IAC is operating. The ECM will control the idle speed, and add about 50 RPM when the AC compressor is engaged. That means the target hot idle should be 900-950 RPM. The actual idle speed shoudl INCREASE when the AC is on, not decrease. Either your IAC is dead, or the throttle is so far out of adjustment your IAC can no longer control the speed. You didn't try to adjust the idle with the throttle stop screw, did you?

Hey VADER, thanks for the response.
It looks like the IAC is the culprit
replaced it a little while ago, everything
is hunky-dory. I love this website, its alot
cheaper than the shop.THANKS AGAIN
