?'s on serial #'s

Heres the deal. I have an 86' IROC without the original motor. Thats how I bought it. When I bought it it was carbed, which I payed no concern. Back in the days I knew nothing, but now I wish I had. The only thing on my mind was getting an IROC, or some other kind of Camaro, and thats what I found. Now the car was in good shape from the get go, but from what I know now, the car came with a 5.0L TPI motor. But the guy I bought the car from told me that it had a 350 in it. And he gave me the receipt for the motor. So I think he was telling the truth, almost positive.
So, I was just wanting to know If I could find a serial # somewhere to tell me what kind of block I have. Just looking for some answers. Oh, I love my car anyways.

On the drivers side at the rear of the engine block, right where it bolts to the trans, will be a casting number stamped between the top bell housing bolt and the second bolt......(3970010..etc.)

Go to www.mortec.com or post the number here.

Oh, and when I find the #'s tomorrow, where or how do I tell what they mean?

My engine number is K1193560, This was stamped on the front passengers side behind the alternator, All I could find on the rear of the engine was the numbers 627.. Does this information mean anything as to what kind of engine I have.

IIRC..The "K" number is a number used to tell what the car/truck it came out of was and the last couple of digits should match the last couple in your vin if the engine is original.

As far as the 627, it should be a longer number, I have heard of the casting numbers on some SBCs being on the pass rear deck of the block.

StngKlr : post the number here and we will try to help figure it out.
